In 1981 Soufu Honda was born in Asahikawa-city, Hokkaido,Japan;
the capital city of the northern island of Japan.
At the age of two, I had my first
" fateful encounter" with the world of
Japanese calligraphy through my grandmother.
Deeply drawn to the art-form as I grew.
I eventually studied Calligraphy History
at University, learning the traditional style and method of calligraphy.
In 2003, I completed my Masters Degree in Calligraphy at Hokkaido University of Education.
As an artist I have always been experimenting
with the many forms of calligraphy
to develop own distinctive ,personal style ; to capture the origins of KANJI
(Japanese characters) ; and convey their powerful messages.
I have focused on their original meanings and forms of the KANJI as a source of my
artistic expression - to express their visual artistic meaning and emotion through the
Japanese brush and brush-strokes...to cultivate a calligraphic art form
that transcends the boundaries of time and language.
